There are opportunities for students to receive private tuition in music and to perform as members of a choir, vocal ensemble, band or orchestral group. A public speaking and debating competition, talent quest and creative arts workshops are held annually. We participate in the Dukes (formerly Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme) for students in Year 9 and above and our students have achieved great success with this program. Our annual Kokoda Challenge is held during a school holiday period and is a significant endurance and team walking challenge along the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea. We also have Christian lunchtime group and camps, various field trips as international language and history immersion tours. Sports opportunities abound and make full use of our first-class facilities on site.
Thomas Hassall Anglican College supports a flourishing extra-curricular Performing Arts program spanning all ages, and offers a range of ensembles. Students regularly perform at school assemblies and College events, as well as community initiatives and both National and International Tours.
Thomas Hassall Anglican College offers a range of co-curricular sports programs including specialist programs for our Talented Athletes.
Debating fosters confidence and ability in public speaking by providing opportunities to prepare and practice in a formal, yet safe and supportive, competition setting. It also improves the ability of students to construct persuasive and cogent argumentation, by requiring them to formulate clear, publicly accessible reasons for their opinions and by giving them the benefit of constructive feedback. The ability to construct a clear and persuasive argument is a skill for a lifetime, which is essential for many secondary and university subjects, as well as for making an impact in public life.
Thomas Hassall has many clubs that Students can be involved in depending on their interests. Many of these clubs operate during lunch hours such as;
Students are informed about clubs throughout the year so they can join up as they form.
The Award is a challenging, practical program offered all over the world to young people aged 14-25 years. To earn each level of the Award, each young person must learn a skill, improve their physical well-being, volunteer in their community and experience a team adventure in a new environment.
The Award program is one of individual challenge. It presents young people with a program of voluntary activities that encourage personal discovery and growth, self-reliance, perseverance, responsibility and service to the community. Each person who does the Award learns a skill, becomes more physically active, volunteers in their community and undertakes a team adventure.
It fits well with aims of the College for future graduates in producing well-rounded, resilient, self-efficacious and self-reliant graduates, who also have a sense of their place in God’s majestic Creation.
